My wife and I were introduced to racing at a very young age. Out of that grew a love of racing that has grown with the years. She was from Wichita Kansas and her father was a car owner who participated at the local track there known as 81 Speedway.
I grew up going to the old Tulsa Speedway.
My heros of that era included Ray Crawford, Danny McCutchen, Jerry Stone, and of course the rivals of Emmitt Hahn, and David Grubb just to name a few. As a kid I always dreamed of being a driver and being able to speed around that track and have the fun they were having.
As i got older and married not once but twice i was pulled away with responsibilities of raising a family, but i never lost the love of racing.
I married my second wife in Wichita and was a regular fan at the 81 Speedway when i met a man by the name of Johnny Whitmore who raced Modified race cars. A friendship was born and soon i was helping him on his pit crew as much as possible.
My wife had said that we should get or build a car and race it too. I loved the idea and soon acquired a car that needed a lot of work. We started on it right away but it consumed a lot of money and then, my grandmother pasted away. We soon moved back to Oklahoma and brought the car with us.
Soon after our return to Oklahoma, our house burned down. We lost everything. We were forced to sell our car to make ends meet, and tried to put our lives back together again. It took 2yrs+ but we bought another car off of Peanut White.
Once again we had a project that required a lot of work. It took us 1 1/2 yrs to put it together but we made it and raced it last season. We didn't get to race every race, but the ones that we made were pure joy for the entire family. Now we have built a new car and have planned to race every race this season and see if we can't earn ourselves a top 10 jacket and with God's help maybe a trophy too!
I have 3 children still at home and 2 that are grown. Of the ones at home kiara my 12 year old loves racing with a passion and has a dream of being the first woman in history to win the Daytona 500. Its a big goal and i pray that she makes it happen. My 9 yr old son Devon doesn't care to drive a car, he has dreams of winning the AMA motorcross title. He loves his dirtbike for sure. and for my little one Alyssa she has been in racing all of the 13mths of her life. She really gets into it at the track and watches me race every lap( she gets mad when the racing stops) so maybe we are raising another cup driver who knows.
Racing is a big part of my family's life and God willing we will always be at the track on a Friday or Saturday night.
